Pbd's 5 moves for the week
March 3, 2024
1. Reflect

Before we dive in this week, I have an announcement to make. Over the next few months, we are going to undertake a major update to the Bet-David Consulting site. It will become a hub of valuable, constantly updated business wisdom. Big plans ahead! Therefore, I am going to make this our last Sunday newsletter, so that we can devote our energies into that broader, more strategic initiative for business content.   With that being said, let’s get to this week’s Five Moves.   When is it time to let go of something--even if it's successful? How do you know when to pivot?

Your Move

You hear stock analysts ask: Buy, sell, or hold? Most of the time, "holding" is a cop-out and a passive way of not making a decision. That's why I like Jack Welch's philosophy: “Fix it, Sell it, or Close it."

2. Stat of the week

My team and I produced 140 consecutive Sunday newsletters. Once we made the commitment to deliver this to our audience, we made sure to keep our promise and over-deliver.

Your Move

Start. Take action. Make a move. Fear is what's standing in the way. Once you commit, let the fear of letting people down drive you to show up like a professional and continuously over-deliver on your promises.

3. Strategize

No matter where you are now in your career, you will become either extinct or irrelevant if you're the same person a year from now that you are today. And with AI, that time horizon keeps shrinking.

Your Move

Stay paranoid! Wake up every day assuming someone is trying to put you out of business. Any less urgency, and you likely WILL go out of business. You can never stop innovating and getting better. Winners constantly re-create themselves!

4. Read

I just released a list of the Top 24 Books to Read in 2024. I consider this the bare minimum for any serious CEO or entrepreneur.

Your Move

I've probably said this a dozen times in this newsletter alone, which is why it's worth repeating: Make reading a part of your company culture. You MUST have a book-of-the-month club, and you must set the tone as a leader by constantly discussing and assigning books to people on your team.

5. Perspective

What if you asked the question, "Aren't I lucky to be in this position" instead of, "Why do I have so many headaches?" Problems come with success. If no one is envious of you or out to get you, it's a sure sign of mediocrity.

Your Move

Embrace your enemies! Once you seem them as rocket fuel, your entire perspective changes. When you get to any even higher level, you learn to choose your enemies wisely! Thank you for being faithful readers while this newsletter has been in effect, and we’ll keep you informed about our new Bet-David Consulting platform.
