If you hear your peers, friends, staff, or kids using made-up terms like stage fright, challenge them. Let them share their fear and empathize, but don't let them off the hook by rationalizing their fear through a made-up term. If you need inspiration to have the courage to sing or perform, check out what i shared with my kids and my team and watch Calum Scott sing "Diamonds" on Britain's Got Talent.
The number one quality of a leader who is duplicatable and creates other leaders who win at a high level is....they have a way of making it look easy. When people look at you and think they can do it too, it makes them BELIEVE they can win as well.
Make your success look easy by showing your imperfections. Be vulnerable. Show your fears and flaws. Talk about the times you sucked. Make people understand that they're not the only ones who struggle and have doubt. If you let people know all the mistakes you made along the way, they'll believe they can replicate your success.
Everything you say and do needs to move people. Too many business leaders are so focused on logic and strategy that they forget the importance of emotion.
Get out of your head and into your heart. Speak to people's dreams and/or tap into their crusade. If you've plateaued, it's likely because you're too logical and don't move people by speaking to their emotions.
Two quotes that stood out to me are: "Where we once thought ourselves collectively strong, we now regard ourselves as individually entitled." And, "Sometime before the year 2025, America will pass through a great gate in history, commensurate with the American Revolution, Civil War, and twin emergencies of the Great Depression and World War II."
America. I'm still fired up from the speech I made at my kids' school on Veterans Day about why America is the world's greatest country.
Watch the video about the data proving America is the greatest country.
