Pbd's 5 moves for the week
July 18, 2021
1. Reflect

Mikhail Botvinnik, the Soviet World Chess Champion, realized that he would lose games to smokers. He didn't complain or play the victim. Instead, he started practicing against people who he instructed to smoke in his face.

Your Move

Search for your weaknesses and leaks. Once you identify them, like Botvinnik, find a strategy to tackle them head-on.

2. Stat of the week

Figure out how you are going to achieve your BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goals). There are two big question to ask: Are you willing to meet the demands of your big dreams? And, how is it going to feel when your dreams become true?

Your Move

Go to that place where you can see and feel those dreams happening. If you can convince yourself that feeling is so insanely good, then you’ll be willing to pay the price to get there. For more clarity, watch this video.

3. Strategize

The crab-bucket effect: The minute you start to level up in your life, the other crabs in the bucket pull you back down—so you can be trapped in mediocrity with them. It’s driven by jealousy, envy, or resentment.

Your Move

Make a list of the "crabs" who try to pull you down and the winners who lift you up. Spend your time with the winners. It's worth repeating that you're the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.

4. Read

Outsiders by William Thorndike This book examines why CEOs succeed and emphasizes that one of the most important tasks of a CEO is the allocation of capital and time.

Your Move

Understand the difference between working IN your business and ON your business. Take the time to step away to strategize and think big picture about how you allocate time and resources.

5. Perspective

The chaos in your life. Mario Andretti said, "If you have everything under control, you're not moving fast enough."

Your Move

Take a moment to recognize that many of your problems arise from success. Ask yourself if you would trade your problems to have everything totally under control. Viewed from that perspective, you may start to see chaos as a good thing.
