1. Reflect

You don't win people over by lowering your standards. In fact, all you do is let mediocre people sneak by while alienating the real winners and killers.

Your Move

The most common reason people lower their standards is because they're afraid people will leave them. Ask yourself: What does it say about you and your organization when you live in fear of underperformers leaving?

2. Stat of the week

Your Move

Take a page from Will Guidara, bestselling author of Unreasonable Hospitality and realize that "one size fits one." In other words, everyone is driven differently, and it's your job to drive people based on how they are wired.

3. Strategize

Do you want to be the person (and use the language) of someone who is trying to get even or someone who wants to accomplish a dream?

Your Move

4. Read

Your Move

When you hit a roadblock, stay focused on how to overcome it. I see too many people who avoid adversity and immediately distract themselves with a new problem. Remember that the only way out is through.

5. Perspective

Financial freedom. The more money you have, the harder it is to be corrupted and make choices that go against your vision.

Your Move

Live frugally until you have a seven-figure net worth. Be aggressive when it comes to investing in your business and cautious when spending on personal goods.
