Pbd's 5 moves for the week
October 29, 2022
1. Reflect

Never judge people for something that you may want to be forgiven for later.

Your Move

Be quick to understand and slow to judge. When you see someone make a mistake, rather than put them down (both publicly and in private) appreciate your own weaknesses and ask how you can avoid making the same one.

2. Stat of the week

Use your talent and passion as a storyteller to show people what their life looks like when they take the disciplined path and when they take the easy path. Paint a picture of both success and regret.

Your Move

Since most people are short-term thinkers who struggle to delay gratification, it's up to the leader to describe how their life will look a year from now, a decade from now, and fifty years from now depending on the effort they put in today.

3. Strategize

Do you think you're working harder than you actually are or do you think you're not working hard enough? How do you process this question?

Your Move

Underachievers fall in the first category. Overachievers are in the second. Underachievers think they know it all. Overachievers are paranoid because they recognize how much they have to learn. How you define yourself will determine how much effort you put in to constantly improve and advance.

4. Read

The movie The Judge starring Robert Downey, Jr. with my two sons. The movie covers some mature topics including family estrangement, power struggles, divorce, and the death of a parent. It also talks about forgiveness and redemption.

Your Move

Rather than spend your energy blocking out messages from the media, use your energy to thoughtfully choose what you share with your kids. Then, take the time to show them how to process what they saw and discuss challenging issues.

5. Perspective

People who risk not being liked by telling the truth. There's an African proverb that says, "The speaker of the truth has no friends."

Your Move

Recognize that the most popular voices will rarely be the most honest ones. Think about which is more important to you: being liked or telling the truth.
