1. Reflect

Your life is a byproduct of the way you think. Your way of thinking produced the life you're living today.

Your Move

If you don't like the life you're living today, it's time to change the way you think. In 2002 when I was really struggling, it was a tough pill to swallow. I hated admitting then that my mindset was off, but I love it now.

2. Stat of the week

How do you blend logic and emotion? I pour my heart out to my team, and I know that when I touch their hearts, then (and only then) can I get into the nuts and bolts of how to execute.

Your Move

If you talk about what to do before you talk about why to do it, you will lose people. Don't make the mistake of believing that there's no place for emotion in business. When you move people emotionally, you move the needle on results.

3. Strategize

Don't declare anything that you're not completely committed to. It's great to share your BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goals), especially if the pressure forces you to step up. The flip side is that there's nothing worse than making a big declaration that you don't deliver on.

4. Read

How to Want Less, a great article in The Atlantic by Arthur C. Brooks.

Your Move

Don't just read it. Think long and hard about what truly brings you satisfaction.

5. Perspective

Energy to fuel transportation.

Your Move

At a time when so many are complaining about high gas prices, let's remember that we are lucky to have cars and planes and energy to run them. I'm no fan of many of our economic policies, but I don't lose sight of the big picture which means appreciating what I have.
