Pbd's 5 moves for the week
July 31, 2022
1. Reflect

Your job as both a leader and a parent is to make the big look small.

Your Move

As much as you sell your grand vision, you also have to break it down to daily habits and attainable milestones so people believe they can stack up small wins and build confidence. You also have to be a great entertainer so you can keep people's attention.

2. Stat of the week

In EVERY meeting, my agenda is to: create urgency, sell the dream/vision, challenge, encourage, and have clear expectations for accountability.

Your Move

Emotion isn't limited to the occasional pep talk. You constantly have to move people emotionally in order to get them to act logically.

3. Strategize

Can you expect to duplicate success if you don't set the example and don't equip your team with the required tools?

Your Move

Your job is to equip with your team with ammunition. When you equip them (with skills, confidence, training), they feel empowered and produce big results.

4. Read

The 1989 film Roadhouse with one of my favorite actors, the late Patrick Swayze. I shared a clip with my team to highlight how important it is to hold your tongue.

Your Move

When you have momentum, you can pound your chest and say, "I told you so." If your outcome is to satisfy your ego, do it. If your outcome is to grow your business, restrain yourself from being condescending. People may admit that you're right, but they won't join your team.

5. Perspective

Not living in California (at least I am). Unless you like high taxes, high gas prices, high homelessness, and high regulation (mask mandates are being discussed), California is no longer the promised land.

Your Move

Build wealth, skills, a network, and stay liquid so you have choices. When you have savings, you can be mobile and quick to pivot. That also means if you have enough money and want to live in a high-tax state like California or New York, you can make that choice too.
