As much as you sell your grand vision, you also have to break it down to daily habits and attainable milestones so people believe they can stack up small wins and build confidence. You also have to be a great entertainer so you can keep people's attention.
In EVERY meeting, my agenda is to: create urgency, sell the dream/vision, challenge, encourage, and have clear expectations for accountability.
Emotion isn't limited to the occasional pep talk. You constantly have to move people emotionally in order to get them to act logically.
Can you expect to duplicate success if you don't set the example and don't equip your team with the required tools?
Your job is to equip with your team with ammunition. When you equip them (with skills, confidence, training), they feel empowered and produce big results.
The 1989 film Roadhouse with one of my favorite actors, the late Patrick Swayze. I shared a clip with my team to highlight how important it is to hold your tongue.
When you have momentum, you can pound your chest and say, "I told you so." If your outcome is to satisfy your ego, do it. If your outcome is to grow your business, restrain yourself from being condescending. People may admit that you're right, but they won't join your team.
Not living in California (at least I am). Unless you like high taxes, high gas prices, high homelessness, and high regulation (mask mandates are being discussed), California is no longer the promised land.
Build wealth, skills, a network, and stay liquid so you have choices. When you have savings, you can be mobile and quick to pivot. That also means if you have enough money and want to live in a high-tax state like California or New York, you can make that choice too.
