Pbd's 5 moves for the week
January 9, 2022
1. Reflect

Plato said, "No one is more hated than he who speaks the truth."

Your Move

Think about what you are holding back for fear of not being liked. Then ask if you're better off telling the truth and risk being hated or being silent so you don't offend anyone.

2. Stat of the week

Interviews and sales calls are about the sequencing of questions. It's not just what you ask, but when you ask it.

Your Move

Take the time to think five moves ahead so you can sequence your questions. Walk in the shoes of the other person to understand their motivation and comfort level so you can strategically lead them down a path through a sequence of questions. In my interview with the late Kobe Bryant, see how I led him to open up about Shaq.

3. Strategize

This timeless quote from Think and Grow Rich: I bargained with life for a penny. And life would pay no more. However I begged at evening when I counted my scanty store. For life is just a employer; he gives you what you ask, But once you set the wages; why, you must bear the task. I worked for a menial’s hire, only to learn, dismayed, That any wage I had asked of Life; Life would have willingly paid.

Your Move

Set the bar high for what you want to earn...and bear the task needed to earn it.

4. Read

Ted Lasso. How many times have you heard me say that I rarely watch TV and never binge-watch a series? Ted Lasso reminds me so much of a good friend that I can't stop watching it.

Your Move

If you haven't started watching Ted Lasso, do NOT start!

5. Perspective

Capitalism. You can see from my tweet how I feel about Bernie Sander's view of capitalism.

Your Move

Support policies, politicians, and leaders who value freedom over control.
