Give awards and recognition to people who are doing the activities that you value. By edifying the behavior that you want to encourage--even if it doesn't directly impact revenue--you will change your team's culture.
When you edify people, make sure to manage their egos. Sometimes too much praise can make people forget that they still need to respect the company's leaders.
If you manage people, see yourself as much a psychologist as a leader. Taping into people's emotions while managing egos is an art that you must continue to work on.
Can you reason? Are you open to feedback? That's the number one quality I look for in people.
Be willing to tolerate mistakes. What you can't tolerate is people who don't admit their mistakes or listen to feedback. When you encounter people who can't get past ego or stubbornness, it's time to let those relationships go.
