Pbd's 5 moves for the week
January 29, 2023
1. Reflect

The best state to be in when you're making decisions is calm, objective, and independent. When you're too high or too low, your judgment won't be as solid."

Your Move

Learn to use the phrases "Let me think about it," "Give me a day," and, "Let me process it and get back to you." As much as I care about speed and trust my instincts, there are very few instances in which I'm not better off waiting 24 hours before finalizing an important decision.

2. Stat of the week

Those who lose Q1, lose the year. Maybe you can overcome a bad January, but if you don't right the ship this month, you'll lose too much momentum, confidence, and authority to have a killer year.

Your Move

Take the time to revisit your business plan and goals. If you can remember WHY and WHO you are working for, the WHAT and the HOW will become obvious.

3. Strategize

Can you sum up your position on important topics in one soundbite? Can you appreciate the importance of critical thinking and how very few issues can be reduced to right or wrong?

Your Move

Listen to the PBD Podcast with Bret Weinstein. He's a great processor and breaks down issues without needing to sell you on his opinion.

4. Read

Unreasonable Hospitality: The Remarkable Power of Giving People More Than They Expect by Will Guidara.

Your Move

Remember that we are all in the hospitality business—and we can transform ordinary transactions into extraordinary experiences...for our customers, team members, and partners. Watch what happens to your business and life when you raise your standards.

5. Perspective

Books. The photo for this newsletter is the wall I see every day when I walk into my office. It sets the tone for a company that values learning, introspection, and debate.

Your Move

Instead of telling you to read more, I'll tell you to spend more time with other readers. They will challenge you, and because you want to be part of the conversation, you'll naturally start reading more.
