Pbd's 5 moves for the week
August 26, 2023
1. Reflect

You don't have to grow your business. You don't have to innovate. You don't have to cast a vision for your people. Then again, they don't have to stay.

Your Move

When most people reach a level of success, they slow down, or they stop completely. Much respect for Tim Cook for refusing to play it safe or get complacent. Apple was worth $349 billion in 2011 when Cook took over, and today it's worth $3 trillion.

2. Stat of the week

Never let the stage fool you. In other words, don't judge people on their public persona. Instead, find the metrics (like EBITDA and growth rate) that actually measure success.

Your Move

It's okay to feel a certain way when you listen to a speaker. But before you make any decisions about this person, check their track record and see if their actions are consistent with their words.

3. Strategize

Who is the only person who knows how big you think?

Your Move

One clue that you're not thinking big; you attract victims and complainers. A clue that you are thinking big; you don't feel the need to convince anyone about your vision. Your actions speak for themselves.

4. Read

Live...8 Republican candidates face off in Milwaukee for the first GOP debate on August 23, 2023.

Your Move

Play the long game. I've been planning for this moment (and much bigger ones to come) for twenty years.

5. Perspective

People who offend you. Even better are the ones who insult you. These are the people who show you where you're sensitive and test your leadership.

Your Move

The next time someone does something to get a reaction from you, disappoint them! Instead of taking the bait, stay unemotional to determine what leadership lesson this situation is trying to teach you.
