Pbd's 5 moves for the week
February 25, 2024
1. Reflect

What reputation do you want to build? When people are talking about you behind back, what do you hope they are saying?

Your Move

Decide what you want your reputation to be and then earn it in every way. That expression, "How you do one thing is how you do everything" sums up how to build a reputation. You want to be the type of person who when you say something, people have 100% confidence it will get done.

2. Stat of the week

Over half of all jobs driving the US economy will be significantly impacted by AI. Instead of replacing manual labor jobs, AI is expected to have a bigger effect on knowledge work. According to a study from the McKinsey Global Institute, "Nearly 12 million Americans in occupations with shrinking demand may need to switch jobs by 2030."

Your Move

Never stop investing in yourself. Don't get complacent. And definitely don't under-estimate the speed and power of AI.

3. Strategize

You can't build a culture sitting behind your desk. The worst thing leaders can do is insulate themselves and think they are above the day-to-day operations of a business.

Your Move

Circulate amongst the troops. Take people out to meals. Plan incredible events. Show up unannounced, Above all, don't lose sight of the customer and your team members who take care of customers.

4. Read

Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter by Liz Wiseman

Your Move

Read this book to learn how to become a leader who knows how to bring out the best of the people around you.

5. Perspective

Having a plan that is 90% complete and has the buy-in on your team is much more powerful than having the perfect plan that the team either doesn't understand or doesn't believe in.

Your Move

Execution relies on depth, energy, and conviction. As I detailed in Choose Your Enemies Wisely, you must constantly find the balance of emotion and logic.
